Mumbai News: Fire Breaks Out at Terminal 1 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
Emergency crews contained the blaze within minutes, and airport officials said operations were not affected.
- On Thursday, a fire broke out inside Terminal 1 B at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai's Vile Parle area, triggered by a short circuit at 6:10 pm.
- Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, and ward staff rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information. The BMC said the fire was confined to AC unit and exhaust ducting in an area about 1000 sq.ft to 1500 sq.ft.
- Around 70 people were stranded on various floors and rescued by firemen through the staircase. The CSMIA spokesperson confirmed no injuries occurred and airport operations remain unaffected.
- Chief fire officer Ravindra Ambulgekar reported the fire broke out in cable trays and switch boxes inside the terminal. Emergency response teams brought the situation under control within minutes.
- A similar fire broke out at a hotel near the Mumbai airport in the Andheri area in February this year. The cause of Thursday's terminal fire remains under investigation.
