- Producer Tom Winchester is developing a new Mary Poppins television series based directly on P.L. Travers' original eight novels, aiming to capture the "more complex elements" of the books.
- Unlike the cheerful 1964 Disney film starring Julie Andrews, this adaptation will lean into the surreal and occasionally frightening adventures found in the source material.
- Winchester is producing through Pure Fiction Television, backed by See-Saw Films and British talent agency Hamilton Hodell, while approaching showrunners after adapting Barry Eisler's 18 John Rain assassin books.
- Although Winchester secured the rights directly from the Travers estate, he is reportedly in early discussions with Disney regarding potential participation, though the project does not require Disney's involvement.
