Gujarat Agencies Intercept Major Cocaine Shipment Near Mundra Port
Officials said the cocaine was loaded in Brazil and routed through several countries before reaching Gujarat, with three suspects arrested and one still missing.
On May 25-26, the Indian Coast Guard and ATS Gujarat seized approximately 118 kg of cocaine during a joint intelligence-based operation off the Mundra coast, intercepting cargo vessel MV Europe at the outer anchorage of Mundra Port.
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, ATS Gujarat tracked the vessel carrying cocaine originating from Brazil and routed through Latin America, Mexico, US, and Karachi; crew member Juma Nasir Omar had concealed approximately 150 kg in the motor room in November 2025.
Despite poor visibility and rough sea conditions, joint teams recovered five bags containing 115 packets totaling 118.977 kilograms of cocaine; investigation also revealed two Garmin GPSMAP 67i GPS and Satellite Communicator devices plus four Apple AirTags concealed aboard.
Tanzanian crew member Juma Nasir Omar was arrested while accomplice Ngingite Nassoro Jumanne escaped by jumping into the sea; intended recipients Kelvin Chukwuma and Byaruhanga James were arrested in Delhi with police assistance.
Interrogation of detainees is underway to uncover deeper conspiracy layers, with joint investigations by ICG and ATS Gujarat continuing to target distribution networks involving Nigerian and Ugandan nationals in Delhi, marking a significant victory in maritime drug interdiction.
In Gujarat, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Indian Coast Guard conducted a major crackdown on drug trafficking. Approximately 100 kilograms of cocaine was seized, with a market value of ₹1,000 crore (approximately $1 billion).
