Man who killed his ex-partner's sister and her three children in a house fire jailed for life
Sharaz Ali, motivated by jealousy and fueled by drink and drugs, was sentenced to whole life imprisonment for murdering four family members in a premeditated arson attack.
- On Friday, Doncaster Crown Court sentenced Sharaz Ali, 40, to a whole life order for murdering Bryonie Gawith, 29, and her three children, and attempting to murder Antonia Gawith.
- Prosecutors said Ali was motivated by revenge and sexual jealousy, planning the attack and buying petrol while travelling to take revenge on Antonia Gawith after she ended an abusive seven-year relationship.
- CCTV and trial evidence showed Calum Sunderland kicked the door in on Ali's orders, who then poured petrol through the house and ignited it, while jurors were shielded from parts of the 999 call.
- Calum Sunderland was jailed for life with an 18-year minimum, and Ali suffered burns to 70% of his body, with amputated fingers and hospital care, court heard.
- The judge said there was `substantial pre-meditation` and Ali viewed the three children as `acceptable collateral damage`; Mr Justice Hilliard also praised Bryonie Gawith’s courage and emergency services’ response.
