Russian man sentenced to 4 years in UK prison for assault witnessed on video by Barron Trump
Matvei Rumiantsev received four years for assault and two years for attempting to pervert justice after a video call report from Barron Trump led to his conviction.
- At Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, Matvei Rumiantsev was sentenced to four years in prison after Barron Trump, the son of the U.S. President, witnessed him assaulting a woman during a FaceTime call.
- The 23-year-old Rumiantsev, described as a trained fighter, drunkenly attacked the victim on January 18, 2025, after becoming jealous of her friendship with Trump, which he learned of in October 2024.
- Trump, then 19, alerted the City of London Police after witnessing the assault, telling the operator: "I just got a call from a girl, you know, she's getting beat up."
- Beyond the assault conviction, Rumiantsev received two years for perverting the course of justice, while the victim testified she lives in "constant terror and uncertainty about the defendant's release."
- Judge Mr Justice Bennathan branded Rumiantsev "totally unrepentant" and warned of potential deportation, though the jury acquitted him of rape and intentional strangulation charges relating to the same incident.
