Man guilty of killing a woman and her daughter is set to be Florida’s 7th execution of 2026
Knight is set for Florida’s seventh execution of 2026 after being convicted of killing two people, including a 4-year-old child, officials said.
Richard Knight, 47, faces execution today at 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison near Starke for the 2006 murders of Odessia Stephens and her 4-year-old child, Hanessia Mullings.
Knight lived with the victims in Coral Springs, near Fort Lauderdale, before the killings; while held at the Broward County Jail, he confessed to the murders to another inmate who testified against him.
The Florida Supreme Court denied Knight's appeals last week, rejecting claims regarding new evidence and execution protocols, while a final appeal remains pending before the Supreme Court.
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis oversaw more executions in 2025 than any other Florida governor since the death penalty was reinstated, positioning Florida as the national execution leader.
Nationally, 47 people were executed in 2025, with Alabama, South Carolina, and Texas tied for second place; another execution is planned in Florida on June 2.
