- Ralph Toews, owner of RT Signs operating since 2005, sought the expansion because his current 2,311 sq-ft shop was too small for his needs.
- The building sits in a Rural Residential area with a commercial zone designation, and some councilors expressed concern about large businesses in residential zones.
- Toews told council he had no plans to expand further and said this location was his best option despite usual encouragement to locate businesses of this size in industrial zones.
- Council approved the expansion with two votes against, acknowledging RT Signs’ community role and the intent to pass the business to Toews' sons.
