Man dies after attack by tiger at UK wildlife park
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, a man entered a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park and was attacked, sustaining serious injuries, South Yorkshire Police said. Emergency services including land and air ambulances responded shortly after 1:35 p.m.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park officials evacuated visitors immediately and confirmed closure through Sunday following the serious incident. The 'Land of the Tigers' attraction features a purpose-built 2-acre reserve with a 300-meter raised walkway designed to separate visitors from the endangered Amur tigers.
Multiple witnesses reported hearing 'five shots' fired inside the pen, which some described as 'gas canister' discharges. A black screen was erected around the enclosure as emergency personnel secured the area.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed the tiger remained in the enclosure, posing no wider risk to the public. Officers urged the public not to share 'distressing' footage of the incident circulating online.
Authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the breach while the park stated that visitor and animal safety remain their 'highest priority.' Officials continue carrying out enquiries at the Doncaster site.
