Man Behind Carjacking Spree in King County Sentenced to 27 Years

On Monday, U.S. District Judge John Chun sentenced Maar Teng Rambang to 27 years and one day in prison for a violent carjacking spree spanning four King County communities in November 2022.
During the November 7, 2022, crime spree, Rambang confronted victims at gunpoint in Kent, Bellevue, and Seattle, stealing multiple vehicles and shooting one man in the leg in the Eastlake neighborhood.
Officers tracked the stolen Jeep SUV to Kent, pursuing Rambang at speeds of 90 to 100 mph before Renton police blocked the vehicle and executed a "precision immobilization technique" to end the chase.
Judge Chun called the actions "serious, terrible crimes" that caused lasting psychological damage to all three victims, while First Assistant U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd noted Rambang is "fortunate" no one was killed.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg explained the case was prosecuted federally as part of a concerted effort to deter carjackings, and Rambang will serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
