Islamic terrorist motive for stabbing being investigated
Police are investigating a potential Islamist terror motive for a stabbing that occurred in Belfast on March 1, 2025, involving a suspect who traveled from North Africa through Britain.
An 18-year-old man was arrested near the Ormeau Road for wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
The victim, a 51-year-old man, received treatment in a hospital and has been discharged after the incident.
Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck stated that detectives are investigating various motives, including possible religious ideology, a hate crime, or a mental health episode.
