Mamata Challenges Bhabanipur Election in High Court; BJP Calls It Futile Attempt
Banerjee filed an election petition after losing by 15,105 votes, challenging Suvendu Adhikari’s victory and seeking a review of the Bhabanipur result.
On Tuesday, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee removed youth wing president Saayoni Ghosh and women's wing head Mala Roy, replacing them with Arnab Banerjee and Alifa Ahmed to tighten organizational control.
Following the party's electoral drubbing in the West Bengal Assembly polls, Banerjee dissolved all former committees on June 5, packing the new leadership with loyalists to revitalize the embattled Trinamool Congress.
Leaders of the breakaway faction claimed 20 of the party's 28 Lok Sabha members, including senior MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, signed a letter seeking recognition from Speaker Birla as the "real TMC."
Mamata filed an election petition before the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, challenging the Bhabanipur assembly seat result where she lost to Suvendu Adhikari by 15,105 votes.
Dissident MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar declared the bloc would offer support to the BJP-led NDA in Parliament, signaling a potential realignment following the party's electoral defeat.
