Maine court wrongly terminated a mother’s parental rights to 5 children, high court rules

The ruling restored her rights and sent the case back after the court said the termination relied on inadmissible hearsay about drug tests.

A Newport District Court judge erred when he based his decision on testimony that the mother had failed two drug tests, despite the fact that no evidence of the results were ever produced, the Maine Supreme Court found.
