The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has presented a new World Chess Championship. It will be an "all-around tournament" featuring games in the rapid, blitz, and a shortened version of classical chess called fast-classic.
The International Chess Federation and Norwegian star Magnus Carlsen have agreed on a new competition for the title of world champion. Carlsen has confirmed that after a break of several years, he will once again compete for the coveted title, but not only in classical chess.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) and world number one Magnus Carlsen have a long history of disagreements, but on Wednesday both backed a new world championship concept that sets the stage for the Norwegian's return.
The chess king seems to like the crown again: Magnus Carlsen, who in 2023 had laid down his World Cup title in classical chess out of displeasure in the long-breathed format, apparently wants to participate in a new world championship concept. The winner is named champion of the world association FIDE in the combination.
