Technically, both Mafia and Mafia 2 present open worlds, but like L.A. Noire, this world only exists to offer some very rudimentary secondary activities and is not designed to be explored from end to end. Mafia III broke with this tradition, but the next Mafia: The Old Country returns to the most linear form. In an interview with IGN, director Alex Cox states that although the game has a wider open world, it is not like Grand Theft Auto V.
