MacIntyre Has a Big Finish and Builds 4-Shot Lead in the Texas Open
MacIntyre’s 14-under total set a new 36-hole mark as he built a four-shot clubhouse lead with two rounds remaining.
On Friday, Robert MacIntyre shot a second-round 64 to reach 14-under-par at the Valero Texas Open, breaking the 36-hole record at TPC San Antonio by two shots.
Ranked 11th in the world, MacIntyre entered the tournament to be "sharper going into Augusta" for next week's Masters, having skipped San Antonio last year.
Playing alongside Ludvig Aberg and Jordan Spieth, MacIntyre described his iron play as "dynamite," recording his first eagle of the season on the 14th hole.
With a four-shot lead over Aberg, MacIntyre maintains command while overnight leader Mark Hubbard collapsed to a 77, including six bogeys and a double bogey on the 5th.
Following Akshay Bhatia and Brian Harman, MacIntyre seeks to become the third successive left-hander to win this pre-Masters event, building momentum for his Green Jacket bid at Augusta.
