Luxon, Albanese to meet in Queenstown
OTAGO, NEW ZEALAND, AUG 7 – Prime Ministers Luxon and Albanese will discuss security, economic cooperation, and regional issues during the annual leaders' meeting with $32 billion in bilateral trade, officials said.
- Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will host Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Queenstown on August 9 and 10 for the annual leaders’ meeting.
- Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said he had known Albanese for a long time, reflecting a strong personal and leader-to-leader rapport, and New Zealand and Australia take turns hosting the yearly fixture.
- He will participate in a business roundtable with the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum, and will be welcomed by Ngāi Tahu at a pōwhiri before bilateral talks.
- Focusing on economic integration, Albanese will discuss security, defence, and Pacific leadership with Luxon to strengthen ties and advance the Single Economic Market policy.
- Luxon noted that, in today’s uncertain world, the Australia-New Zealand relationship is the bedrock, as Australia is New Zealand’s only ally and vital economic partner.
