On the surface, the beaches in the U.S. state of Hawaii look fantastic - but according to a study a lot of plastic waste is hidden under the white sand. The French marine research institute Ifremer, the Hawaii Pacific University and the environmental organization The Ocean Cleanup had searched the beaches in three locations of the Hawaiian island of Oahu one meter deep for plastic waste for their investigation in the years 2022 to 2024.
