Loss of women in part-time jobs a signal of change: B.C. labour stats
Statistics Canada's analysis shows notable changes in B.C.'s workforce, with employment gains in healthcare, agriculture, and social assistance, while the manufacturing industry stagnated, according to Diana Gibson, the Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation.
B.C. added 25,400 full-time jobs since January 1, the highest increase in Canada, and saw a rise in self-employment by 15,100, revealing a robust job market compared to the national average.
Gibson noted that part-time positions are typically the first to be cut when companies reduce staff, saying, 'Women working part-time and young people are the first to lose their jobs.'
Gavin Dew, the Shadow Minister of Jobs, criticized the NDP's focus on public sector growth, stating that private sector job growth is lagging and some people are leaving B.C. for better opportunities elsewhere.
