Sparks to Unveil Lisa Leslie Statue at Crypto.com Arena
The statue makes Leslie the second WNBA player honored by her franchise and will join 15 other arena sculptures.
On Thursday, The Los Angeles Sparks announced they will honor Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie with a statue at Crypto.com Arena, unveiled Sept. 20 before the team's game against the Portland Fire.
During her 12-year career with the Sparks, Leslie won two championships and three MVP honors, becoming the first WNBA player to dunk in a game and the franchise's all-time leader in points and rebounds.
Created by sculptors Julie Rotblatt Amrany and Omri Amrany, the statue will join 15 other iconic sculptures in Star Plaza, making Leslie only the second WNBA player, following Sue Bird, to receive this franchise honor.
Sparks co-owner Magic Johnson called Leslie a "pioneer, a cultural icon and a force who elevated women's basketball to new heights," while Leslie expressed gratitude, stating, "The wolf is only as strong as the pack."
Coinciding with the Sparks' 30th anniversary season, the team is launching a new practice facility and CBA, with Leslie noting everything is "aligning so properly" for the organization's future.
