Founder of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing IndyCar Team, Dennis Reinbold Dead at 65
The longtime Indianapolis-area auto dealer founded Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in 1999 and built a family of dealerships across the state, the team said.
- Dennis Reinbold, owner of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and an Indianapolis car dealer, died Saturday at 65. The team announced his passing on Sunday, stating he died peacefully surrounded by his family.
- Reinbold founded the team in 1999, honoring his family's racing heritage that began in 1927 with his grandfather, Floyd 'Pop' Dreyer. The Indianapolis-based operation became a fixture at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
- DRR qualified all 53 cars it entered into the Indianapolis 500, frequently contending at "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Team drivers included Buddy Lazier, Al Unser Jr., and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
- Team partners Chase Selman and Brett De Bord will continue operations with an engineering alliance with Juncos Hollinger Racing. IndyCar and IMS President Doug Boles called Reinbold a "shining example of character, compassion, and leadership."
- While memorial services remain pending, the team intends to honor Reinbold by chasing victory in the 111th Running of the Indianapolis 500. His devotion to the sport defined his lasting legacy.
