- On Saturday night, Murali Sreeshankar clinched the title with a 7.75m leap at Maia, Portugal, at the Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto.
- A severe patellar tendon rupture resulted in a 21-month layoff, causing Sreeshankar to miss the 2024 Paris Olympics.
- Sreeshankar opened with a 7.63m jump, followed it up with his winning leap of 7.75m in the second round, and then recorded a solid 7.69m.
- Following the win, Sreeshankar wrote, `Never jumped in such terrible cold headwinds in my life`.
- With the World Championships in Tokyo ahead, Sreeshankar aims to reach the 8.27m qualifying mark, supported by ₹5.58 lakh funding for Europe and Central Asia till August 14.
