Huge London Marathon Change with Runners Racing over 2 Days in 2027
Organizers said the one-time format will add about 40,000 places and allow 100,000 runners across the weekend.
London Marathon Events announced on Friday that the 2027 London Marathon will span two days—Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, April 25—as a one-off change branded the 'Double.'
A record 1.33 million people entered the ballot for the 2027 event, an 18% increase over previous records that prompted organizers to expand capacity significantly.
London Marathon CEO Hugh Brasher estimates the 100,000 participants will raise more than £150 million for charity and generate £400 million in UK economic benefits.
Under the revised format, organizers will split fields across both days, with elite women and female para-athletes competing on one day and elite men on the other.
Although the expansion is a 'one-time-only' arrangement with the race returning to single-day format in 2028, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan praised the unique event's fundraising potential.
