Local canyon a fire threat to several communities

San Clemente Canyon is a natural park along State Route 52, between I-805 and I-5. It connects the open spaces at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to the east and on Mount Soledad to the west. If a fire starts in those open spaces and the wind kicks up above 30 miles per hour, fires will quickly move up the steep slopes and the houses in University City, La Jolla and Clairemont could be in great danger.
