Liverpool parade crash driver Paul Doyle jailed for more than 21 years

Paul Doyle injured 134 people in a deliberate vehicle attack during Liverpool FC's Premier League parade, pleading guilty to 31 charges and receiving a 21.5-year sentence.

  • Doyle, 54, was sentenced on Dec 16 to 21 years and six months after admitting 31 offences for injuring 134 people at the Liverpool title parade.
  • Prosecutors said Doyle acted from `blind rage` after failing to reach a friend and `completely lost his temper`, using his vehicle as a weapon and rejecting his panic defence.
  • Video presented at Liverpool Crown Court revealed dashcam and CCTV footage showing Doyle driving a nearly two-tonne vehicle for seven minutes, hitting pedestrians, a pram, and trapping a woman beneath the car.
  • Judge Andrew Menary said 50 hospitalised victims ranged from six-month-old Teddy Eveson to 77-year-old Susan Passeon, adding Doyle caused `horror and devastation on a scale not previously encountered by this court.`
  • Bystanders, including Dan Barr, stopped the vehicle by forcing the gear into `park` and smashing windows, police said the incident was not terrorism, and Doyle must serve at least two thirds of his sentence.
