Lithuanian president: Russia-Belarus war games Zapad posed no direct threat

President Gitanas Nausėda said the Zapad 2025 drills involved 40,000 troops and heightened NATO's vigilance, but posed no immediate danger to Lithuania.

As Russia and Belarus wrapped up the active phase of their joint Zapad 2025 military exercises, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said Tuesday the drills unfolded as announced and posed no direct threat to Lithuania.

The Foreign Ministry said that the Russians are preparing to leave Belarus after the Zapad-2025 exercises. The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Georgy Tykhyi, said that the Russian troops who participated in the Zapad-2025 exercises in Belarus are preparing to return to the territory of the Russian Federation.
