The iconic cruise ship Astoria, one of the oldest passenger ships in the world, will soon be dismantled and recycled by Galloo in the port of Ghent. The ship yields more than 12,000 tons of material, more than 97 percent of which will be reused. The Astoria became world famous after a fatal collision in 1956.
Astoria Reportedly Sold for 200,000 Euros
The Astoria was reportedly sold during an auction that took place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, earlier this week. According to the Dutch media, the winning bidder offered 200,000 euros for the former ocean liner, which was originally built in 1948. The buyer, who remains anonymous, was the only one to place a bid for the Astoria, a report by Rijnmond said.
