When Du Fu composed "Eight Poems on Autumn Feelings" in Kuizhou, he deliberately used the fifth poem to vividly depict Chang'an during the "Kaiyuan Prosperity" period. In fact, he was using the glory of Chang'an in those days to contrast his own loneliness as a wanderer. This technique of "using joyful scenery to express sorrow" makes the artistic conception of the whole poem even more captivating.
