Leafs trade G Samuel Ersson to Sens for 5th-rounder
On Friday, The Toronto Maple Leafs traded the rights to goaltender Samuel Ersson to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.
The Maple Leafs originally acquired Ersson on June 16 from the Philadelphia Flyers, sending goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit to Philadelphia in the deal.
During 33 appearances, the 26-year-old netminder recorded 14 wins, 11 losses, and 5 overtime losses with a 3.12 goals-against average in the 2025-26 season.
Clearing a roster spot allows The Maple Leafs to continue evaluating and pursuing additional player moves throughout the summer as they manage roster composition.
Despite a difficult recent season, Ersson previously finished 10th in Calder Trophy balloting and represented Team Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
