Lay's Overhauls Ingredients, Redesigns Chip Bags in 'Largest' Rebrand in Company's 100-Year History
Lay's will remove artificial flavors and colors from all U.S. products by the end of 2025 while honoring over 100 family-owned farms across North America, PepsiCo said.
- Last week, Lay's announced a new bag design and said it will remove artificial flavors and colors from U.S. products by the end of 2025.
- PepsiCo's Design & Innovation team designed packaging that highlights potatoes and salt to honor Lay's farm-to-bag story and 100 family-owned farms across North America.
- Lay's spends up to nine years developing potatoes, selecting 10 varieties from more than 4,000, and partner farms near PepsiCo cooking and packaging facilities enable potatoes to reach bags in 48 hours.
- Reformulated Lay's are headed to retailers including Target, Walmart, Whole Foods and Sam's Club; Lay's Baked will use olive oil with 50% less fat, and Kettle Cooked Reduced Fat Original Sea Salt will have 40% less fat.
- Looking toward the future, Lay's says the redesign sets the stage for its next 100 years and PepsiCo plans more new options in 2026, while 42% of consumers are unaware chips use real farm-grown potatoes.
