The jobless rate in Hungary for people between the ages of 15 and 74 stood at 4.4pc in April, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Friday show. In the February-April period, the number of employed people decreased by 32 thousand compared to the same period of the previous year, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.4 percent. The average duration of the job search was 13.1 months.
This time of year is usually when employment increases and unemployment decreases. Now the opposite is happening.
Surprisingly unpleasant employment data came out of Hungary this morning. According to economic analysts, the number of employed people does not usually decrease so quickly, so the current data is definitely a warning sign.
In April 2025, the average number of employed people aged 15–74 was 4 million 666 thousand. The number of unemployed people was 215 thousand, the unemployment rate was 4.4%.
