Noem out of Shield of America’s role, State Department confirms
Noem’s envoy status expired last month, and she now serves as a senior adviser to Deputy Secretary Landau on the same initiative.
On Thursday, the State Department confirmed that former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is no longer serving as special envoy for the Shield of the Americas initiative.
President Donald Trump appointed Noem to the diplomatic role in March following her removal as Homeland Security secretary amid scrutiny regarding her management and adviser Corey Lewandowski.
Noem's envoy status expired last month, but a State Department official stated, "She is now a senior advisor to Deputy Secretary Landau and continues to work on the Shield of the Americas portfolio."
The former secretary remains involved in the coalition of the United States, Caribbean, and Latin American countries, which focuses on economic and anti-cartel enforcement cooperation.
Amid departures like former ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump praised Noem for doing "a really terrific job" at a coalition gathering.
