Wisconsin’s Republican candidate for governor keeps his distance from Trump in nail-biter campaign
Tiffany has taken steps to separate himself from Trump while his campaign and outside allies have outspent Crowley $53 million to $35 million, according to AdImpact.
A Marquette University Law School poll of 692 likely voters conducted Sept. 16-23 shows Wisconsin's governor's race remains a dead heat between Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany and Democrat David Crowley.
While a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, Tiffany has moved to distance himself from the unpopular president on the Iran war and AI data centers, calling Crowley 'Data Center David Crowley' to attack his positions.
Crowley told supporters last week, 'if they buy Congressman Tom Tiffany this election, he will sell Wisconsin out to them,' citing Tiffany's $26 million-plus fundraising with $24 million from just three billionaire donors.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore campaigned with Crowley last week to boost turnout, while Crowley suspended messaging features on inmate computer tablets following criticism from Tiffany over the program's misuse.
With Trump's approval ratings at record lows, Democrats hope this midterm election will allow them to retain the governor's office and flip control of the Legislature, which has been majority Republican since 2011.
