Kris Bubic loses no-hit bid for Royals on official scoring change but enjoys fantastic homecoming
- Kris Bubic pitched seven shutout innings, allowing two hits, as the Kansas City Royals defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Monday night in San Francisco.
- Bubic’s bid for a no-hitter ended in the sixth inning after an error initially attributed to Royals’ second baseman Michael Massey was overturned to a hit following a video review by official scorer Michael Duca.
- During the sixth inning with two away, Wilmer Flores grounded a ball toward second base, but Massey slipped while attempting the play, allowing the ball to roll into the outfield and resulting in Flores being credited with a hit. In the seventh inning, Casey Schmitt contributed the only other hit—a clean double down the left-field line.
- Bubic improved his record to 5-2 by striking out five and walking three, while reducing his ERA to 1.47—ranking as the second-best ERA ever recorded by a Royals pitcher in their first ten starts of a season.
- The game was held at Oracle Park, a place significant to Bubic as it’s where he developed his support for the Giants; he estimated that about 30 to 40 family members and friends were in attendance, and he approached the game like any other to stay composed.

The Orlando Pride may not be exactly in free fall, but when compared to last season, the team certainly seems to be struggling — at least on the offensive end. The club’s 1-0 home loss to Kansas City could have been a productive result if not for a defensive error that handed the league’s most dangerous attacker a 1-v-1 against the goalkeeper. Alas, Friday’s game wasn’t an aberration. The Pride have scored once in the last three matches, and tha…
