- On Wednesday, Kim Kun-Hee, wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, appeared for questioning at South Korea’s special prosecutor’s office as investigators expanded probes into alleged stock manipulation, bribery, and interference in nominations.
- Shortly after his June election, President Lee Jae Myung approved legislation to launch investigations into Yoon’s presidency, including the probe into Kim Kun-Hee, under Seoul’s new liberal government.
- Investigators allege Yoon Suk Yeol and Kim Kun-Hee exerted undue influence over the People Power Party’s 2022 by-election candidate selection at election broker Myung Tae-kyun’s request, linking Kim to gifts via a fortuneteller for a Unification Church official and possible stock manipulation.
