CNN: Kathy Ruemmler Faces Scrutiny Over Epstein Connections and Comments on Accuser
On Wednesday, The House Oversight Committee released a transcript of its closed-door interview with former Obama White House Counsel Kathy Ruemmler, who was questioned about her ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Ruemmler resigned from her top legal position at Goldman Sachs in February following reports detailing her interactions with Epstein; she told the panel she now regrets those associations.
During questioning, Ruemmler testified that descriptions of abuse by Virginia Roberts Giuffre "lacked inherent credibility," and investigators probed a 2015 email where she wrote about potential counterclaims against Giuffre.
Ruemmler defended her past communications, claiming she was "sort of in a generic way trying to show that I'm being somewhat responsive" to Epstein, while maintaining she had "no direct involvement" in the matters.
In 2019, Giuffre publicly alleged Epstein trafficked her to friends, including Prince Andrew, when she was 17 years old; the former prince, now Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has repeatedly denied the allegations.
