Karnataka Power Tussle Intensifies as CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy DK Shivakumar Head to Delhi for Crucial Congress Meet
Party sources said no change in Karnataka’s chief ministership is planned as leaders discuss a cabinet reshuffle and internal demands for ministerial berths.
On May 26, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a breakfast meeting at Karnataka Bhavan in Delhi with Congress high command including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
Mounting speculation about a leadership change in the State Government, fueled by Shivakumar's repeated visits to Delhi to lobby for the CM position, prompted the gathering.
Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar and his brother D.K. Suresh reached the party office in New Delhi to discuss various issues with senior leaders. Party general secretaries K.C. Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala formally received Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Party sources indicated the Chief Minister's post would remain unchanged despite intense speculation, as Congress leadership moved to manage factional tensions within the State Government.
Unresolved demands from senior MLAs and MLCs for Cabinet positions and Shivakumar's continued pursuit of the CM role suggest deeper factional competition within Karnataka Congress could resurface.
