Kyle Rittenhouse Hospitalized Following Bite From Venomous Spider
Rittenhouse posted hospital-bed photos and said the bite drew thousands of reactions online, including support and mockery.
Kyle Rittenhouse, 23, was hospitalized on Wednesday after being bitten by a venomous brown recluse spider, sharing images from his hospital bed including a photo of the swollen bite mark.
In 2020, Rittenhouse became a household name after fatally shooting two men in Kenosha, Wisconsin; following his 2021 acquittal, he now serves as chief firearms instructor for Texas Gun Rights.
Rittenhouse boasted on X that the spider "did not survive," joking he was "Disappointed I m not Spider-Man now&" while acknowledging well-wishes from GOP Senator Rand Paul.
The announcement triggered polarized social media reactions, with critics like political commentator Art Candee and liberal commentator Irina Ilkiw posting disparaging remarks alongside supportive responses.
According to Columbia University's Irving Medical Center, brown recluse spiders are typically found in Southern, Western, and Midwestern parts of the United States; while fatalities are rare, bites can cause painful wounds.
