Jury convicts activist who took chickens from Purdue plant
- Wednesday, October 29, 2025, a Sonoma County jury found Zoe Rosenberg guilty of felony conspiracy and misdemeanor trespassing for taking four chickens from Petaluma Poultry in 2023 after about three and a half hours of deliberation.
- Defense lawyers argued Rosenberg described her actions as a rescue, saying `Sonoma County spent over six weeks and hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to protect a multibillion-dollar corporation from the rescue of four chickens worth less than $25`, said Rosenberg's attorney, Chris Carraway.
- Surveillance footage and GPS trackers showed the June 13, 2023 incursion involved disguises, fake badges, rented vehicles and an Airbnb safe house, with Rosenberg posting video online.
- Judge Kenneth Gnoss ordered Rosenberg to wear an ankle monitor until her Dec. 3 sentencing hearing; she remains free on bail with conditions including staying at least 500 yards from farms and avoiding six animal activists.
- The verdict marks a prosecutorial win as District Attorney Carla Rodriguez said her office will continue targeting activists who blur protest and crime, following Wayne Hsiung's Nov. 30, 2023 sentencing.
