Ryan Murphy's Tension With the Real People Who Inspire His Shows Explained
Jack Schlossberg calls FX's Love Story 'fiction' and urges creator Ryan Murphy to donate profits to JFK Library amid concerns over misuse of Kennedy legacy.
- On March 1, Jack Schlossberg, JFK Jr.'s nephew and a New York congressional candidate, blasted the Ryan Murphy-produced FX/Hulu series Love Story in a CBS Sunday Morning interview, calling it 'grotesque' and accusing it of profiting without family consent.
- Producers say they did not contact the family before filming, and executive producer Nina Jacobson confirmed no contact during production, prompting objections since Love Story debuted Feb. 12 and Schlossberg first criticized the project last summer.
- The producers defended the show, saying `For all of us who are making TV shows based on real events, you have to consider your ethical obligation to the family members and approach it with love and kindness,` Simpson said, while cast members expressed surprise and sympathy.
- Citing political timing, Schlossberg urged donations, saying `I would hope that Mr. Murphy would donate some of the millions of dollars of profits that he's making to some of the causes that John championed throughout his life` and expressed concern over misuse of JFK's image by Trump and RFK Jr.
- Later this month the Love Story finale on March 26 airs, and the series quickly became a cultural talking point after its Feb. 12 debut, while Murphy's adaptations often prompt family backlash over consent.
