JD Vance expresses doubt about livestreaming Fort Hood shooter execution, says he wouldn't watch
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced plans to livestream the December 3 firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan, framing the broadcast as demonstrating "serious consequences" for violent acts.
Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and injured 32 others in a 2009 shooting at the Texas Army base; this marks the first U.S. military firing squad execution in more than 65 years.
Senator Thom Tillis called the broadcast "beyond disgusting," comparing it to "oppressive dictatorships like Iran and Afghanistan," while Senator Chris Murphy told CNN the plan was "disgusting."
Vice President JD Vance expressed doubt on Friday that the broadcast will occur, telling reporters, "I don't know that that's actually going to happen," while confirming he would not watch if aired.
President Donald Trump has not commented on the livestreaming plan, though he previously approved the firing squad method; the execution remains scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood.
