Japan exports post huge miss in September as growth slows to 16.7%
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance reported that Japan's exports rose 16.7% in September, down from the 19.3% increase recorded in the previous month.
September's merchandise trade deficit reached 536.6 billion yen, missing forecasts of 181.0 billion yen and improving from the 1,111.9 billion yen deficit in August.
Imports climbed 18.9% to 11.508 trillion yen, falling short of the 19.6% forecast, as growth cooled from the 28.0% surge recorded a month earlier.
Reuters-Polled analysts had pegged export growth at 20.1%, marking a substantial deviation from the actual 16.7% result reported by officials.
Ministry data shows cooling momentum in the export sector compared to previous figures, as observers evaluate whether this slowdown signals a sustained trend in trade.
