James Nicoll Cooper, born in New Haven, Conn., on October 5, 1934, passed away Saturday, July 19. James attended Foote School, Westminster (in Simsbury, Conn.), and Harvard, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1956. He was a Woodrow Wilson Scholar at the University of Michigan before returning to Harvard to finish his Ph.D. James served in the army, stationed in Italy, which was a formative experience.
