Blazers Guard Ja Morant Out for at Least 4 Weeks Due to Hamstring Injury
Imaging showed a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, and the team said Morant will be re-evaluated in four weeks.
On Friday, Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant sustained a Grade 2 left hamstring strain and will miss at least four weeks, ESPN reported. He exited Thursday's loss against the Memphis Grizzlies in the fourth quarter.
Morant left the game in the fourth quarter during Portland's loss, marking his first appearance against the Grizzlies since being traded to the Trail Blazers this past offseason. The injury occurred in the matchup against his former team.
The four-week recovery timeline means Morant will miss at least 15 games for the Trail Blazers. He had averaged 16.3 points and 6.3 assists in nearly 27 minutes through his first four games this season.
Portland head coach Micah Nori had previously sought to limit minutes for his star backcourt to manage depth. The team begins a four-game road trip against the Utah Jazz on Saturday without Morant.
Morant, 27, played just 20 games during his last season due to an elbow sprain, continuing a pattern of availability challenges with the Grizzlies. The hamstring injury raises questions about durability in his first season with Portland.
