Israel’s military says it has fully disabled Yemen’s main airport with airstrikes
- Israel's military launched airstrikes on May 6, 2025, fully disabling Sanaa International Airport and striking power plants in Yemen's capital.
- The strikes followed a Houthi missile attack on Israel's Ben Gurion airport on May 5, marking retaliation against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
- These airstrikes were the second in two days, included multiple volleys targeting the airport runways, aircraft, and electricity stations, producing thick smoke over Sanaa.
- Spokesperson Avichay Adraee urged civilians to leave the vicinity of the airport without delay, warning that staying in the area could put their lives at serious risk, and included a map of the airport with the message.
- The attacks indicate a significant escalation in regional tensions involving Iran-backed Houthis, Israel, and suggest continued conflict given recent repeated strikes and warnings.
