A United Nations special committee has warned the world could be witnessing “another Nakba” as Israel moves to forcibly displace Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. With the genocide in the Gaza Strip perpetrated by the Israeli government in 2023, “the Palestinian people live their second Nakba,” in terms of forced displacement, loss of homes, deaths of entire families, famines, destruction of hospitals and murder of journalists, among others, said the organization Beitna, in Mexico City.
Several organizations commemorate the forced displacement of the Palestinian people in 1948 following the establishment of the State of Israel. A first gathering will be held on Thursday, 15 May, followed by two marches on Saturday, 17 May.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Education claimed that Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University are holding the events "on school grounds, using public resources." He added: "We are witnessing the transformation of academic freedom into a tool in the service of brainwashing by the extreme left."
