Iran's New IRGC Chief Vows to ‘Open Gates of Hell’ After Israeli Attacks
- On Friday overnight, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, sending 200 warplanes to strike Iran's nuclear and military targets in Tehran and other cities.
- The operation followed the 2018 U.S. withdrawal from a nuclear deal and culminated after secret Israeli preparations and rejected negotiations by Tehran.
- The strikes killed key commanders, including IRGC chief Hossein Salami and armed forces chief Mohammad Bagheri, damaged the Natanz nuclear site, and provoked missile and drone retaliations.
- Major General Mohammad Pakpour, appointed IRGC commander by Supreme Leader Khamenei, vowed in a televised letter to 'open the gates of hell' against Israel in retaliation.
- Iran promised decisive retaliation targeting Israel's infrastructure if attacked again, while Israel declared the strikes only marked the start of a prolonged campaign.
