Lowe's Departure Confirmed with Winger Set for Japan Move
Leinster’s record try-scorer departs after 71 tries in 101 appearances, with a move to Japanese club Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath expected.
On Tuesday, Ireland and Leinster Rugby winger James Lowe announced he will leave the club at the end of the season, ending a remarkable nine-year journey in Irish rugby.
The Irish Times reported last month that a contract wrangle involving the IRFU led to a reduced one-year extension, as the union denied Lowe PONI status unlike Peter Mahony and Conor Murray.
Lowe departs as Leinster Rugby's record try-scorer with 71 tries in 101 appearances; the 33-year-old earned 45 caps for Ireland and said the decision came with a "heavy heart."
At the URC Grand Final on June 19th, Leinster Rugby will defend their URC title against the Vodacom Bulls at Croke Park in Lowe's final game for the province.
Following his departure, Lowe is set to join Japanese club Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath, a move likely to exclude him from the 2027 World Cup despite his previous qualification for Ireland.
