Originally from Haut-Rhin, Cécile Kohler has been detained since 7 May 2022 in Iran with his companion, Jacques Paris. On Monday, 6 October, Tehran mentioned a possible release of the couple, as part of an exchange of prisoners with France.

Iran and France indicated on Monday that talks on the release of two French citizens held in Iran in exchange for an Iranian national detained by France were progressing. The 19-year-old had been arrested in June, during the "12-day war" between Iran and Israel. Tehran still holds French teachers Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who were charged in June with "espionage" for the benefit of Mossad.
Iran has affirmed "hope" the "next" release of the French couple Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, which can soon be made "after the necessary procedures" and the release of an Iranian national arrested in France.
