Iran demands UN Security Council hold US accountable for directing June strikes that killed over 900 people, seeking reparations and sanctions for alleged war crimes, says Foreign Minister.
- On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a letter to United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres and the United Nations Security Council asking for an emergency meeting to investigate U.S. involvement in the June war and enforce the ceasefire.
- Last week, President Donald Trump said he directed Israel's initial strike, which Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Foreign Minister, cited to accuse Trump and U.S. officials of "criminal responsibility" for the June 13 attacks.
- Calling for `appropriate measures`, Araghchi urged reparations, including restitution and compensation, from the United States and Israel, and said, `This is indeed without prejudice to individual criminal responsibility`.
- Iran's stance complicates nuclear talks, as Tehran links resuming talks to compensation while Araghchi's deputy said earlier this week it seeks a peaceful agreement; spokespeople for the U.S. mission to the U.N. and Office of António Guterres did not immediately respond.
- Araghchi noted the human toll, saying Trump's remark shows U.S. control during the 12-day June war, which Iranian state media says killed more than 900 people amid mixed U.S. signals.
