- On Sunday, Blake Buchanan, a 6-foot-11, 227-pound forward who played the past two seasons at Virginia, announced his commitment to Iowa State via Instagram.
- Iowa State is retooling its roster of post players and Buchanan is expected to help fill the roles left by Dishon Jackson and Brandt Chatfield, who are either transferring or out of eligibility.
- Buchanan, originally from Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, was a four-star recruit and averaged 5.4 points and 5.3 rebounds while starting in 22 of 32 games during the 2024-25 season, while Virginia was known for its defensive play and low scoring games.
- Buchanan stated that a significant factor in his decision was his relationship with Coach T.J. Otzelberger, whom he met at the 2023 USA Basketball U-19 camp, and that "They see a lot more in me than I think some other schools did."
- Buchanan will have two years of eligibility remaining and joins Eric Mulder and Mason Williams as the third transfer portal commitment for Iowa State, which is remaking its roster after multiple players transferred last week.
